Responsible Gaming Might be Paying Off. For Golden Nugget, displaying the Responsible Gaming logo has been positive. And what is Responsible Gaming? It’s about making sure the game remains a game. It’s also the name of the private US group focused on researching the subject. Their mission is to raise awareness of gambling disorder and youth gambling. It also finds ways of dealing with problems.
Rutgers University Center for Gambling Studies created the brand. In 2015 they published a report on online gambling in New Jersey. In it, Rutgers researchers recommended NJ sites use a uniform logo.
Golden Nugget ethics stand out
GN has received praise for its promotion of Responsible Gaming. A 2016 Rutgers report explains why: “Only one provider – Golden Nugget – produced the logo in the required colors (both logged in and logged out) at the top of the page in a size that a patron could identify. We would urge the DGE to revisit and revise the branding requirements, using the Golden Nugget deployment as a model.”
After the report came out, Golden Nugget moved the logo to the bottom of the page. Still, it remains visible. The Rutgers report went on: “Overall, there was variation in branding across sites during this initial period… A majority of providers reduced the logo to a size that makes it impossible to read the words “Responsible Gaming” and buried the logo at the bottom of the screen amid other financial and business logos.
And what’s happening with the others?
Today, only one casino has the logo at the top of the page. That is Harrah’s Casino, yet it’s not very visible. But Tropicana has the Responsible Gaming logo at the bottom of the page. There it is along with many others. Funnily enough, Golden Nugget is the top grossing online casino in New Jersey. Tropicana, on the other hand, stands in last place. So, it seems that responsible gaming is paying off after all!
