After their immense success in New Jersey, it seems that Mohegan Sun is looking to broaden their horizons. In a recent press release, the casino announced they’re looking to expand outside of NJ. It’s not clear at this stage where they’ll go, although from the looks of things, all eyes seem to be on Massachusetts!

Mohegan Sun has eyes on the Bay State
There’s no doubt about it; MA is a great location to consider if you’re planning to expand your brand. At this time, there are no online casino regulations in place in this state. What’s more is that Bay Staters are pretty cool with the idea of online gambling. Not to mention, they’re one of the few states that legalize Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS). Which, is a clear sign to what may follow in the near future. And Mohegan Sun is keen to bet on that!
$2.5 Billion unfinished project
Moving forward, Mohegan Sun is clearly interested in the rocky Encore Boston Harbor project spearheaded by Wynn Resorts. According to sources, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) deemed Wynn unsuitable to operate in MA. With that said, the $2.5 billion unfinished project hangs on by the hinges!
Taking that into consideration, Mohegan Sun announced last Friday that they’re preparing to enter into negotiations. If plans go in favour of the Sun, then that will most likely open up the doors for other NJ operators to expand in MA too!
The Jersey Connection
As you might know, Mohegan Sun has a long-standing partnership with Atlantic City’s Resorts Casino. In fact, it’s that deal that opened the door for Mohegan Sun’s online casino offerings in NJ. The only question that remains now is, who’s going to finish this ongoing project in Massachusetts? Will it be Wynn or will it be Mohegan Sun? Both companies sure have a lot of experience in the entertainment industry… So, stay tuned to know more about the outcome of this story as its still unfolding right now!
