Borgata is accepting Sports bet! Step out of the grey zone and place your sports bets legally at Borgata Casino. Indeed, only a few days after Murphy signed the bill and the Borgata was taking their first bets from Punters. Which means that the Borgata Casino is one of the first establishment to accept sports bets in Atlantic City!
Following the news Marcus Glover, Borgata’s COO released this statement. “This is a proud day for Borgata and a proud day for New Jersey. Today opens a whole new era in New Jersey sports entertainment. One we anticipate will bring new interest, excitement, and economic benefits to our community”.
First on the ball!
Basketball legend Julius Erving had the honor to place the first bet at Borgata. However, the former Philadelphia 76 didn’t place the $5 bet on his old NBA team. Instead, he went for the NFL team, the Eagles to win the pro football championship. Ironically, just after Julius Erving’s bet, it was Senate president Steve Sweeney to wager $200 on Green Bay Packers to win the pro football championship. After both parties learned about each other’s bet, Erving said to Sweeney “you’re going down”!
When old meets new!
They’re two reasons why Borgata was so quick to go live with sportsbooks. The first, one is of course, that Borgata already had an old race book in position, which was easy to convert into a sportsbook. Especially given the fact that it already had 100 seats with individual flat-screen monitors and 10 betting windows to accommodate punters.
And the second reason is that the Borgata Casino is also part of the MGM Group who have got a wealth of experience with Sports Betting because of their Nevada operations. For now, the new sportsbook will operate under the name of Borgata Race & Sports Book and will remain in its current location. However, plans are already in the making for new additions to complement the new segment off sports betting. So make sure to visit the Borgata if you’re looking for something new! There are loads of sporting events happening!
