BetMGM has announced that it’ll be the first operator to use a new responsible gambling tool, PlayPause. Creator, GeoComply, deployed the tool to stop problem gamblers from crossing state lines to make bets via sports betting app. This is a huge triumph for responsible gambling and takes it to the next level. What’s more, it is offering the toll-free of charge to all US gaming operators. They’re doing this with the help of Conscious Gaming, a non-profit organization. As a result, this new software will improve responsible gaming effectiveness in the entire industry beyond New Jersey’s border.

Crossing State Lines
To sum up, GeoComply initially launched PlayPause back in Q4. They introduced the idea during Responsible Gaming Education Week. Now, with this tech, they can help operators manage compliance issues across all states that offer mobile sports betting. Indeed, this tool increases a player’s self-exclusion bubble as it’ll protect them should they move across state borders. This was not the case before. So now, a BetMGM player can exclude himself from BetMGM sportsbooks all across the US. Shay Seger, CEO of GVC Holdings, part-owner of BetMGM, believes that “the most responsible operator will be the most successful “one in 2021 and beyond. What’s more, he thinks PlayPause’s multi-state approach matches perfectly with their aim of giving customers “the safest and most enjoyable experience possible”.
a Big Step Forward
All and all, PlayPause lets players place self-imposed restrictions that will work across any US state that the operator works in. However, to make it truly successful, it needs more operators to sign up. CEO of BetMGM, Adam Greenblatt” said that this “is an important step for the industry” and he’s happy that BetMGM will “play a leading role” in it. 2020 was a game-changer year when it comes to brick-and-mortar casino safety. And it looks as if 2021 could be the year where online casino and sportsbook operators focus on online safety. But for the project to work as intended, more operators will need to follow BetMGM’s footsteps.
